16/3/16 More underground adventures & lighthouses

Today we get to go to the last cave we'd already paid to visit - a 4 cave pass . We were only about 20klms away , and we were off at 9:30 .
There are so many camping grounds and caravan parks here - there are catholic , baptist , anglican , 7th day adventist , a scout camp , legacy and a brethren campground , then there are the caravan parks - too many to mention !!! and they know how to charge .
The cave we are going to today is Ngilgi Cave - pronounced Gilgi - it is important in aboriginal folklore . There's a semi guided tour , where you are taken into the cave , things are explained to you , then you are left to discover for yourself - it's a really good way to see the cave as you can take as much time as you want , not being rushed around in a large group , or being stuck with a bunch of noisy kids .
One thing the guide said to do was to lie down and look upward in the first large chamber - the stalactites look like they are coming off the roof toward you - it's quite freaky !!

The 2nd & 3rd chambers were also excellent , with features everywhere , I'll let the photo's do the description for you .

We went into the cave at 10am and returned to the surface at 11:30am , we had been down 350 steps and came back up 350 steps , it is an amazing cave to visit . Really glad we decided to look at all 4 caves , they have all been great !!
From the cave we headed down to Yallingup - another small coastal village built on the side of the hill overlooking the beach and the Indian Ocean .

There is a great park & playground beside the beach and they have the coolest showers - shaped like surf boards .

It was time for lunch , the wind was blowing pretty strong from the south , so we headed over to Meelup Beach which is on the other side of the hill and would be a little bit more protected than here.

There were 8 people on the beach and a few having lunch . The water is clear and beautifully coloured . After lunch our next stop was Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse , last time we were here it was covered in sea fog , so we didn't bother trying to find it . Today was different , it was only blowing hard - no fog .

We weren't there for long , the views aren't the best , but we've been there now .
Bunker Bay was our next stop , a really pretty beach with limestone cliffs and very few waves .

 The coastal melaleuca's look a little bit bonsai'd here - I think they're a bit wind blown !!

Next stop was back over the hill to Sugarloaf Rock on the west side of the ridge , it was really windy down here . There is a lookout , fortunately it has a hand rail , you need to hold on to it .
There are some tropical birds that come down to this rock to mate every year , the Leeuwin Current brings warm water from up north all the way down to Augusta !!

I had reached visual overload for the day , so we headed for home .
