13/3/16 Around Margaret River

At a loose end this morning , what to do , where to go ??? Packed some lunch and headed back to Surfers Point , the wind was blowing pretty well , so I thought it could be interesting out there .
Arriving at the point , we realised the surf wasn't the best for surfing , there were very few surfers in the water and there weren't a lot in the carpark either - just a heap of tourists .
The wind was doing great things with the spray off the waves , so I took some photos .

There were a few intrepid surfers out there , one probably wished he hadn't been though , he's now looking for a new board .

After watching for a while , we headed north to Ellenbrook , another surfing location and an historic house as well . It was a low set house tucked back about 400m from the beach , in amongst the low scrub , we bypassed the house and went to the beach instead . It was much more protected , with smaller waves and not as much wind - a good beach for body boarders - the surfers kept appearing from a track to the north - another beach we didn't worry about .

The sun was out and it was warming up , there was no shelter here , just a carpark , so we headed back to Margaret River for lunch . There is a Rotary Park with a small steam engine used for pulling timber out of the forests many years ago . There are also picnic facilities , exercise equipment and Bbq's all in the park beside the Margaret River . We were joined for lunch by about 6 little wrens , bouncing around the undergrowth searching for bugs etc . There was one blue wren , but he was far too quick for the photographer .

The water is backed up by a weir and makes for a beautiful setting . There are walking trails into the forest and you can do a walk or ride to 10 Mile Brook Dam - it's only 15.6klms return . We chose to walk along the track for about 1.5klms and back again . The forest is amazing with big Karri gums giving way to Marri trees , it was a beautiful walk .

Heading off again , we drove around the township - just because we could !! There are 2 other subdivisions on the south side of town , and there are many houses in both - certainly a growing area!!
Back to the farm for cheese & bickies , a berocca for Lyn & a beer for me , We must have been comfortable , as we had a little snooze in the shade beside the RV .
We have been amused and amazed at the size of some of the tents that the younger travellers are using . We have watched 2 couples set their tents & gear up on separate days - the tents don't look big enough for one let alone two people - it's even funnier to watch them try to put an air bed in . The second couple packed up this morning , I'm sure they went outside the tent to change their mind !! They rolled the tent up and tried to squeeze it back in the bag , it went in a little way before they walked over to the bin and threw it away !!! Must have been flying out soon , either that or they realised there wasn't enough room for them to continue to camp in !!!
That's it for another day , see ya !! Map link :-https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=z1G8gwwxwyYo.ky7tQ59HUUNw&usp=sharing
