After a quiet morning at the park , we headed in to Margaret River after lunch to get some fuel . We have been driving past a sign to 10 Mile Brook Dam nearly everyday , so today we went for a look . It is the water supply dam for Margaret River , and is set in the forest . The dam wall isn't really high or long - maybe 15 to 20m above the gully below , and 100m wide . The water is like the ocean and rivers around here - crystal clear . The level is down a fair bit - due to the lack of rain here .
The walk up to the dam is through Marri forest , quiet a nice stroll through the forest as well .
We passed several banksia trees on the walk , they are a different type that grow taller and are a bit leggy , not like the slow growing versions , they looked good with the sun filtering through from above .
Back in the ute and in to fill up with fuel , that done we parked in town and went for a walk up & down the main street of Margaret River , checking out the various shops & cafes . There is the usual collection of clothing , surf , cafes and even a hemp clothing store . We stopped in at the Margaret River Fudge Factory , tried a few samples and then purchased some caramel & ginger , chocolate & ginger , and some mango fudge as well as a caramel macadamia ice cream cone .
The main street is a busy spot most days , today seemed to be a little quiet . The town is bigger than we expected when we first arrived several days ago , there are 3 supermarkets - Coles , Woolworths and IGA , we found a small Bunnings and a bigger Home hardware today , as well as a very large industrial area .
That's it for today , we headed back to the farm and had a relaxed afternoon , salsa & a beer - yes it's tough , but someone has to do it !!
