All hooked up and off we go , leaving Kalgoorlie behind . Heading down to Norseman , we went down through Kambalda and reconnected with the Great Eastern Hwy . First stop was at a free camp near Lake Cowan - a huge salt lake , as can be seen in the next photo .
This one shows the hwy and the railway - the railway seems to be on the lake , the hwy cutting through the hills , and the lake stretching into the distance .
We love all the colours in the lakes , they are all different
This small island sits about 100m off the edge of the lake - almost looks like a waterfall off the edge , but it isn't . Footprints lead to the left end of the island .
This is looking straight down on the island from 120m .
Leaving that part of Lake Cowan , we drive further south , stopping after we'd passed over the lake at this spot , so I could investigate some more .
This too , is part of Lake Cowan and much closer to Norseman
Seems it also has a lot of traffic using it .
This is looking back to where we came across the lake - road on the left and train tracks on the right .
More colours .
We then headed into Norseman and had some lunch , contemplated staying the night , but thought no , it would take us a month to get east - so we fuelled up and kept going . The camels are street art at a roundabout in town .
First looks at what we would be seeing for quite a few days , long straight roads !!
Stopping for a rest break and the obligatory photos , it was also an opportunity for another drone flight , as well as some tree shots .
Did I mention straight roads , yes I did , carrying on we arrived at another salt lake ( yes another one ) , this time it was Southern Hills Rest Area , where there were plenty of them . This is looking east .
Okay there are a few curves in the road , here's a couple .
Lots of different patterns .
Lot's of lakes . We are down on the bottom right of photo .
More colours , and tracks - why do people have to drive on them ????
Continuing on , we arrived at Newman Rock , after about 360klms for the day , it was time to stop . This lake was about 2klms away
Here's the camping area - find yourself a spot and it's yours for the night - there we are , right in the centre of photo .
While I was droning , my better half snapped this little bird .
My what long legs we have , this is the view from the rock toward the salt lake .
There we are , first day on the trip back across - only another 560klms to get to the border !! Time for a beer and another sit down ( as if we haven't done enough of that already today ). Here's a map link :- https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1_36ePiW9ZG-anqg8YcAFd3z8aOvPmuSa&usp=sharing
