6/4/22 Bunda Cliffs Day 1&2

Oh my god , we've actually done it , we've left WA - snuck out before Mark realised I think . We have tried on a few occasions to escape , and go east , but there's been fires , floods , and then COVID bloody 19 . Anyway , we've done it , we're over the border and into a different state - it's taken nearly 4 years !!

Along the highway , there are multiple areas to pull over and take in the views of the coast . This was not far out of Border Village , and looks back toward Eucla - the Telegraph Station is in that sandy area in the distance .

Nothing like a view from above to show what it looks like - the vegetation almost looks like a leopards coat .

The limestone goes right ton the waters edge .

Stopping a bit further up the road , we found another parking area and walked down to the cliffs - The Bunda Cliffs - they run for about 180 kms , and they are accessible to everyone . Having said that , we weren't expecting to see a B double parking on the edge of the cliffs !

We went back down and chatted to him for a little while , apparently he and another driver brought their trucks & trailers down another day and took photos of them beside the cliffs - imagine how surprised you'd be to see a triple road train parked on the cliffs for the night !!
The drone came out again to get some stunning shots of the cliffs - they are up to 80m high - that's a long way to the water !!

Driving up the road a bit further , we found a spot to camp for the night about 20m from the edge , not the place for sleepwalkers 😂😂🤣. It was a bit breezy , but that was to be expected .

What a place to crack a beer and take in the views  - a bit ironic , I have an Alice Springs hat on , and a Cape York stubbie holder and here I am sitting on the Great Australian Bight !!

Then the sun set on another extraordinary day of travel .

Walking around the next morning revealed some of the plants , living and dead - hate to think how old this small shrub was , it's twisted and gnarled trunk was getting parched by the sun and sandblasted by the winds .

A lot of the ground here is revealing sea shells , and not recent ones , these have been buried for a long , long time .

Here's a bit of size comparison , that's our vam in the middle of the photo , and another car & van on the right - That's a lot of cliff !!!

   Great views in either direction

The base of the cliffs was okay as well .

Another aerial view of this amazing place .

Next day was a bit windy again , and cool , so we found a spot near an old Telstra tower - very handy that there were some slightly higher trees to give us some protection from the wind .

And that's where we stayed for the day and night .

It also gave us a cracking sunset !

Wow , what a couple of days - we only moved 12 kms today , but it got us out of the wind . Here's a map link :- https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1I1abb6P4gU-2jmJNi781-W-10_Bq2aSD&usp=sharing
