3/4/22 90 Mile Straight

We had decided to go back east a few years ago before Covid , but there were bushfires happening at the time - this is where some of them were . To have stopped it from going across the hwy to the other side is amazing . Some trees have come back , others gone completely - but there's a lot of new growth there as well .

The highway is utilised as a runway for the RFDS , when and if an accident occurs on the highway . The area's to the side of the road are usually cleared and graded and the guide posts are removed or out to the sides a bit further than normal . Trucks like to pull up on the sides , because there's plenty of room .

We were starting to get a bit excited about the 90 mile straight , it was just around the bend - unfortunately not this one !!

This is a shot of the Balladonia Telegraph Station , it's on private property and not accessible , so this is a drive by photo .

And then we were there , 2 corners to go and not another turn for 146.6klms !!!!

We knew where we were , didn't need a sign to tell us , but here it is .

Yep , it's straight and pretty flat as well .

And it goes on and on and on .

And on . There is the different vegetation to look at , it does change regularly .

It wouldn't be the same without an aerial view of it as well ! Looking east .

  And looking west

We decided to pull over for the night at Caiguna Blowhole . the next photo shows the free camp , we are down the centre bottom of photo , and the blowhole is right near the highway . A blowhole you say ???? , yes a blowhole , this area of WA and SA is the largest Karst limestone area in the world !! There are many caves , sinkholes , and blowholes all along the road .

Fortunately for us there was a piece of plastic caught around a branch to show you how much air was coming out of this cave . The caves breathe , expelling air from the cave system , here's a video of it happening . You're welcome 😃

Here's another view of the straight

And looking east toward the end of the straight .

The grass /spinifex was lighting up in thew late afternoon sun .

This is it , the next morning we got to go around the corner at the eastern end of the straight , yes the weather had changed , lot's of cloud about , and the odd shower of rain .

    That's it , another section complete , here's a map link :- https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1hEbVVeRDYF7Mf_6Mylm3JQrrtMW6Trpc&usp=sharing
