28/3/22 Back toward Kalgoorlie

Leaving our friends today , seems a bit strange , but it's time for us to do our own thing - todays the start of a new adventure !! They headed off to the northeast , we headed south .
We've travelled down this road before , but not stopped to take in the views - particularly the salt lakes & clay pans - especially from about 120m above !
The first stop was only about 10klms out of Leonora , Lake Raeside - there was even a rest stop for us to pull up in . You can see the creek course through the lakes - this is part of an extensive lake system .

The colours are amazing , just for some scale , you can see the van in the top left of the photo .

Further down the road closer to Menzies was a small lake beside the road , time to pull over for a bit of flying

This smaller lake was in front of a much larger one , unseen from the road , but once in the air here it is - it's Lake Ballard , yes the one famous for it's sculptures in the lake about 50 kms from here .

It stretches off into the distance in all it's varying colours .

Straight lines are what they do very well in WA here's some more of them - off to the horizon .

Stop 3 , again further down the road , is Lake Goongarrie . This one is also very large and rather unique from what we've seen .

This one has so many wheel tracks from vehicles venturing out onto the lake - this one is being checked out for mineral deposits . We pulled over to get some photos and after getting ready to go again , a car pulled up beside us - they were geologists , just arriving to go for a 5klm walk out onto the lake , to check locations for said mineral deposits . They seemed mystified why someone would be flying a drone around here - they don't know me then haha .

This is still part of the lake - looks like a lake within a lake .

Here's where all those tire tracks started from .

A little further down the road was Goongarrie Railway houses . This had been a thriving little town beside the railway between Kalgoorlie & Leonora . the line is still in use , but these old houses are all that's left of the township .

It also turns out to be a free camp , so rather than keep going for the day , we stopped beside the first house to block some of the wind & traffic . There were a couple of trains that went through to Kalgoorlie , one actually stopped beside us for a couple of minutes then went again . They also run at night - one went through at some strange time during the night and nearly vibrated us out of bed haha .

 That's it , back to Kalgoorlie tomorrow & decision time , here's a map link : - https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1KjW_ICCjNDETblMZHPO6VgM0v69Nf1fe&usp=sharing
