10/8/16 From campsite to campsite

After a warm night , we woke with the sun and the racket of other people quietly packing up !!
As we weren’t in a rush today , we had a leisurely breakfast , read some brochures and slowly went about our business - we were on the road at 8:30 am .
The morning sun was spreading over the lookout and valley below .

This part of the drive toward Halls Creek and Kununnurra , is by far the best section . There are vast flat areas that lead into hills & ridges , rocks & trees - makes for a more pleasant drive !!

There are patches of Mulla Mulla out in flower , not as widespread as further south , but still looking pretty .

Arriving at Halls Creek , we fuelled up , got some info on the Bungles and headed off again. It was nearly lunch , but we kept going as there was only 98klms to go to our residence for the night . Finding it smack on the 98klm mark , we pulled in and checked out where to set up .
Leycester Rest Area was named after a boy who died on the road nearby , he was a resident of Halls Creek and had a dream to play cricket for Australia - there is now a scholarship set up at his school to assist any other boys with the same dream and ability .
We stayed last year at Spring Creek - near the entrance to Purnululu National Park - another 8klms down the road from here .
There are lots of birds here - whistling kites & nectar eating birds of all sizes , here are a couple of the kites .

After some lunch we went for a walk down to the Ord River , which is about 50m away from us . Like so many other rivers in WA , it’s dry here , but further down it flows into Lake Argyle , then out to Kununnura and onwards to the sea . The rocks in the river bed are interesting - the waves in the rocks from erosion and then there are white stripes through the grey rock .

Tomorrow see’s us going to Kununnurra , we’ve decided to bypass the Bungles as we were there last year - there are only a couple of walks that we hadn’t done , so we decided against going out again . If you would like to see the Bungles , you will have to search back through the blogs to around 23/8/15 - that’s when we were there last year !!
