9/8/16 Broome to Ngumban

Moving day was upon us , seemed a bit strange after a bit over 3 weeks in Broome & surrounds !!
Pack up & hitch up went without a problem and we were on the road at 9:20am , headed toward Derby and Fitzroy Crossing .
The scenery was a bit ho hum untill we got closer to the turnoff to Derby , there was some water in one of the rivers and Boab trees were starting to get more frequent . The boabs aren’t one of the prettiest trees out there , but do have their own charm . There are hundreds out there , from small stumpy shrubs to tall and wide spreading ones - some must be extremely old - we are talking 1,000 to 1,500 years old . They are deciduous ( lose their leaves in autumn & winter ) , some had a full covering of leaves , but most were bare and make wonderful silhouettes . Here are some from beside the highway . If you look closely at the 2nd one , you can see a picnic table & chairs underneath it !! We enjoyed our lunch with the tree for company !

After a few driver changes and quite a few kilometres , we’d arrived at Fitzroy Crossing and proceeded to fill up with fuel . It was quite warm - the car was saying 34 degrees - it felt like every little bit of that !!
Further down the road we followed beside the Emanuelle Range jutting up out of the spinifex grass .

A bit further down the road and we’d nearly arrived at tonight’s destination - Ngumban Cliffs . There is a lookout with views over the valley below and the highway cutting through it. It looked quite splendid in the late afternoon sun - showing off the orange rocks .

There were already 6 vans there in their chosen spot , we were quite late - fancy arriving at 4pm !!!
After setting up we headed over to a pair of concrete tables & chairs under a roof to have a nice cold drink & salsa . We got talking to a couple from North Rockhampton for the next couple of hours as we sat and watched the sun set over the ridge . 460 klms for the day - a big day out !!!
