We got going after fiddling around a bit , the turnoff to Purnululu NP was only 8klms down the road , we resisted the temptation - we were there this time last year , so we kept going to Kununurra . Driving past Warmup and Doon Doon Roadhouses on the way - we had plenty of fuel to get us there so didn't bother stopping . This is one of the best drives in Australia with mountain ranges on either side of the road - it certainly makes for an interesting drive !! Here's some of the photo's .
The locals were doing some burning off , you could see where they'd already done some , and smoke to see where they were doing it today .
There are many hundreds of Boab trees dotting the landscape - this is but one !!
Some of the hills were just piles of rocks - but these were different - the big rocks are at the top and the little rocks are on the bottom - how does that work ????
Next up was a ridge line that we followed for a while .
There was even some water in one of the rivers we crossed over - quite surprising !!
We arrived at Kununurra at lunchtime and checked in and set up , before melting into our camp chairs - it was 35 degrees , and felt every little bit of it !! It wasn't all bad , this is Lake Kununurra , and it is 20m from our site !!
Birds are around everywhere again , here's another type of whistling kite .
On of the gum trees in the park is losing it's bark - it looked good in the sun !!
The day w as getting hotter so we went for a swim in the pool - warmer than Broome - so that was definitely a bonus !!
The sun was going behind the ridge line to the south of us , changing the colours of the lake . A cormorant decided to dry out on a pile of sticks poking out of the water .
A ridge to the east of us was changing colours in the late afternoon sun .
Some dragonflies caught my eye , so I sat & watched for a while , getting this quick snap !!
