Pine Creek cruisin

Sleep in till 8am today , not much on the agenda . We went for a walk around the 9 hole golf course , and let me tell you , if anyone says their greens are tough to putt on - check this out :-

There are plenty of obstacles on the course - trees , occasionally some spiky , crunchy grass and a few small termite mounds - up to about 3m tall .

We wandered back to the RV , and started the next job . Research time for the next few days destinations , campsites , fuel , etc , etc . Before we knew it , it was lunch time , so a Bbq was called for again .
Time to go to town and check out the railway museum & cottage , then to the mining display - an outdoor collection of machinery used in the mines to extract & find gold .

The railway museum was in the old station building - not large by any stretch of the imagination , but had displays of various railway memorabilia . There is also an old steam engine , as you can see above and a not so old diesel engine from the 1970's , and an old railway carriage , still with it's leather seats intact . There was also the rail workers house , a corrugated iron affair - all external & internal walls were corrugated iron , with a verandah around all sides , encased in , you guessed it - corrugated iron . There was no ceilings , just the roof , the walls stopped where the ceiling would normally be . The verandahs were about 2m wide and had awning type windows , again made of corrugated iron .
The mining display had rock grinding machines & rock stamping batteries to extract the gold , there were also steam winches to raise & lower men & machinery into & out of the mine shaft , numerous large cast iron drive wheels & gears , also a couple of brick water tanks dug into the ground .

We proceeded up the road to get some fuel - the United station had run out of diesel , so we went down to the Lazy Lizard Caravan Park/ fuel station / hotel / supermarket / takeaway , to fill up instead.
The train tracks no longer go through town , it now passes to the east of town . There was a cutting in town that was filled in in several places to make some ponds , that are now the Water Garden . The water is clear with some water lillies growing in them , and specimen trees planted around . the grass is well watered and green - a little oasis !!

We watched the comings & goings during the day , the afternoon getting interesting with someone and his guitar entertaining up at the bar , there was an influx of locals today as well - must have known about the entertainment !!
We've had an easy day today , kicking back a bit . Stay Tuned .
