Denham to Galena Bridge Rest Area 14/10/15

Awake early , it has been a windy night, finally the wind has backed off to a dull roar . We get organised and get packed up and were emptying tanks at 9 am , back on the road and heading back to the highway at 9:15 .
The wild flowers seemed to be out more today as we headed out , the traffic was very light , only 3 cars overtook us and about 10 cars & vans coming into Denham .
Out onto the highway again , traffic was a bit more hectic , with plenty of trucks & road trains heading north , and more cars & campers heading south . The road was undulating , very up & down - like a continuous roller coaster . The road must have been formed over the sand dunes , with each side of the road in the typical orange .

The vegetation changed from next to nothing to trees up to 5m tall , the biggest change was all the wild flowers - we thought we'd be too late to see them , but here they were and there was lots - it definitely took your attention away from the other scenery .

There were yellows , creams , orange & red , purple & blue . Banksias were flowering , with large orange brushes . One plant looked like tall grass , but on the top layer , it was mauve - we've never seen anything like it before !!! The photos don't do it justice - that will be a mission to get some good photos of it !

We drove around another corner that dropped down a hill , and we have found our first wheat fields since we left !!! It was a shame because that meant not as many wild flowers !

We reached our destination for the night - Galena Bridge Rest Area on the Murchison River -WA's 2nd longest river , it was 12:40 when we pulled in . We checked out the north side first , but decide to go over to the southern side . There's 1 toilet block on the north side , and 2 on the south , concrete chairs & tables and shelters on both sides of the river -the WA roads dept certainly do a great job with designated overnight stops .
When we pulled up , we saw Chris and Ian - the Walk for Life people we had met near the Bungles , they had pulled in here this morning . Chris is still going strong , no injuries and her feet are in good shape considering they are past the half way mark on her walk around Australia to raise awareness for Prostate Cancer -Ian was given 10 months to live 5 years ago due to Prostate cancer ! They remembered us as soon as we drove in - we chatted for a while before setting up and having lunch . Then talked to them later on as well , gave them a tour of the RV . Crystal was happy to see us as well -their staffy , she enjoys a good rub .
There were yellow wild flowers down beside the river as well as a mauve flower with a burgundy stamen resembling a small hibiscus , but isn't one .

We walked out & over the bridge checking out both sides of the river before coming back for a beer .
STOP PRESS : it started to RAIN -at least we think that's what it was - it's been a while since we've seen it !!!! It didn't last long , but it did cool down in a hurry . It only got to 28 today , almost had to get a jacket !
 Off to Kalbarri tomorrow !!!
