Off to Woomeral 7/10/15

Well we finally left Carnarvon , heading about 120 klms down the road to Woomeral Station . It is  a station stay , as the name suggests , and is right beside the Woomeral River - unfortunately it's an upside down river like the Gascoyne , with much of it's flow underground and a sandy bottom on top!! The camp area is great , with large sites , firepits and a shower / toilet combination in old plastic tanks - the roof has been cut out and there's a gazebo type roof above it .
The drive down was through coastal plains & scrub , with claypans and no trees , wildflowers were still present , but past their best.
We arrived at the station at 10:30 , and after setting up & fiddling round for a while had a Bbq lunch , it was 35 degrees and the wind was from the east , fortunately for us , it turned to the SW and brought some relief from the ocean - a mere 10 klms away .
Here is the river bed beside our campspot .

There is prolific bird life here , budgerigars by the hundreds , zebra finches as well , galahs , peewees, and I even saw a kingfisher . The budgies were nesting in any hollow they could find , there was quite a few near to us .

The budgies also blend in very well with the surrounding landscape . You can see in the bottom photo , the parent is feeding one in the hollow branch - it's a bit hard to see .
We had a thermal pool dip in the afternoon - it comes from 240m below ground and at 32 degrees , not much cooler than the airtime at the moment - the wind is starting to come from the sea and is definitely cooler . They have 2 tanks mounted in the ground beside the river that the bore water flows into . We warmed up , then stood in a sprinkler to cool down again - it to was bore water .

Back for a beer & cheese & bickies , while relaxing in the cool breeze . We decided to light a fire as we had some old tax files to burn , and we sat outside with some tea , before retiring for the evening .
