Fascinating Fascine 1/10/15

Today seemed to turn out to be about The Fascine , at least photographically !!
We headed into town this morning to get some things from the chemist , check with the Post Office , and get some cooked prawns for tea from the fish shop . Getting the prawns first , took us past The Fascine ( safe boat inlet ) and past the boat ramp , I noticed the tide was out and there was a lot of sand showing , so we went back to the boat ramp for these 2 .

The mail hadn't arrived , we picked up what we needed from the chemist , so headed back to the RV .  Lunch packed we headed south down the highway for about 45 klms and turned in toward the coast on a corrugated sandy road . Reaching a T intersection , we turned left and drove down a few klms , finding a camping area with about 10 occupants . We were at New Beach , not a lot of beach , but a lot of mangroves and tidal areas - you have to be careful where you set up , as they have king tides here reasonably regularly - you can find yourself with wet feet in the middle of the night !! Stopping near the beach high tide mark , we went for a bit of a walk - the tide was coming in again - so we didn't go too far - it comes and goes quickly - and had risen about 200mm in 10 mins . There were lots of crabs , and hermit crabs in borrowed shells - all shapes and sizes .

The temperature was 34 degrees at 10 am , as we drove down the highway , the car was telling us it was 41 degrees outside , when we got to New Beach , it had dropped back to 27 degrees - the sea breeze had started to come in thankfully !!
Driving back to the north , we found another free camp , Bush Bay , there was another 15 vans etc there . We found another spot beside the beach and had lunch . The beach here is rather unremarkable  with more mangroves , but more sand than mangroves - it too is a low lying area that will flood with high tides , so care must be taken here when selecting a site . Apparently this is a very popular area that gets filled up with travellers during Winter .
Back to the highway and back to town , the temperature again climbing to 41 degrees away from the coast . We pulled in to the space museum on the edge of town , where there is the OTC Satellite Dish.
It was used by NASA , Carnarvon participated in the space race , helping put man on the moon . The last official job the dish had , was tracking Haleys Comet in 1987 !!

It is also the only spot you can get a 360 degree view of the surrounding countryside and Carnarvon - it's really flat around here !!

It was still hot here as well , so we headed back and went for a swim , after I went to the Post Office again to get the mail - it had arrived !!
As the afternoon passed , the breeze turned to the SW and started to cool things down , thankfully !!
We had a beer with the new neighbours , and then headed into town to The Fascine again . The sky had covered over in light cloud , so it was looking good for a lovely sunset . We found a spot on some of the newly finished promenade and sat and watched , before having our prawns & salad . The sunset was stunning .

As the light dwindled , the promenade lights came on , so it was time to have a play with the camera - here's the result , pretty happy with it to !!
