Walk back in time two 19/10/15

After an interesting night - we actually had some rain - it started about 10pm and finished about 10:20 pm . There was enough to wake up the galahs , who then squawked and shrieked for the next hour . We got to sleep after a while .
After having breakfast , we decided to go back down the coast and do the Rainbow Valley loop walk - about 3klms up & down and along the coast , and to Mushroom Rock as well .
We parked at Mushroom Rock car park and did the loop from there , thought it would be better with the prevailing winds .
Our first glimpse of Mushroom Rock looked interesting .

We headed down the track and took the turn to Rainbow Valley , it would be an amazing sight with all the wild flowers in bloom - we were about 3 weeks late for this !
There are interesting rocks all around the place here , there are multiple layers of burgundy coloured siltstone , with layers of orange sandstone in between . Going through a lot of these layers are what looks like reinforcing bars . As we have found out , they are actually fossilised burrows made by a ancient worm type of animal named Skolithos . They do look amazing , and there must have been millions of them .

The walk took us back up through the valley to the car park , then we headed down the other side , giving us views down the coast .

The breeze was still there and a bit cool , but not so bad - it was 23 degrees . Going down the rocks further toward the water we turned and had views back to the north to Red Bluff .

More clambering down rocks and we reached the beach , the wind was picking up and there were plenty of white caps on the water , the swell was also picking up , you could feel the power of the waves & swell ! The water was rising and lowering , causing cascades over the rock shelves !!

Beside Mushroom Rock we discovered an eroded crack in the rocks , which gushes water through when the swell is high .

The swell was increasing , causing some spectacular surf .We sat and watched for half an hour before heading back up .

The view back down the track was pretty good as well .

We spotted some whales breaching again , but they were a long way out - probably too rough anywhere near the coastline .
We were glad we had been here yesterday , when the conditions were a lot calmer , we wouldn't have been doing any of the other walks in these conditions .
Back into town and down to the post office to see whether our mail had arrived finally - Success !!!! it had arrived !!
It was a seafood basket for two - takeaway , for lunch back at the RV . Just as we pulled up a guy a bit further up needed a jump start , so I headed up there ( only 30m away from us ) and we attempted to start it - it didn't want to start , even though it turned over quite easily - there was another problem !
I headed back for lunch , while it was still hot - and it was great !! We watched another 5th wheeler set up beside us , and decided we have got one that is easy to set up in comparison . There is also another 5th wheeler a couple of sites up that doesn't quite match up to ours either - but that is a completely biased opinion !!!!!
Filling in our paperwork , we got it back in the mail as quickly as we could - missed todays truck , so it will go tomorrow .
Back to the park for a swim ? swim you say , yes , the wind chill will be interesting , it is a bit protected around the pool . The water temp was okay , but was a bit on the cool side whenever you poked your head , arm or chest out of the water . Exercise done , we got out and laid in the sun , till we dried enough to head back and have cheese and bickies & a beer - Lyn had a hot peppermint tea instead of her usual cold drink !!
And that was it for the day , an awesome 3klm walk , a nice lunch , and office work complete .
