Fascination with the Fascine 2/10/15

A little sleep in today , breakfast out of the way , we sat down and started checking through our tax returns - yes , I know , riveting stuff !!! but it had to be done - had to check to make sure everything is right before signing off on it . We discovered a couple of errors , so rang and spoke to the accountants, before heading out in the ute .
We headed down town and checked out the promenade beside the Fascine , there's a tramway bridge ( not in use anymore ) that you can walk across to Whitlock Island , so we did !!!
There's a great playground for kids , with soft fall installed under everything , there are chairs & tables , Bbq's and a lagoon with beach , ideal for swimming as some of the local indigenous were showing us . It was 32 degrees by 10 am , it seems to get hot early here and then sit at that temperature for the middle of the day , then cool down with a sea breeze .

The tide was coming in , and there was plenty of fish in the water - garfish , long tom and crabs - we spotted a blue swimmer crab cruising along the edge of a sand bar . It was about 100mm across the shell and appeared to only have one nipper .

On one side there is a new waterfront subdivision - a couple of years old - and is almost all built out.

Continuing on , the sea breeze was coming in already and was welcomed by us , as it cooled us a bit!!! Across the other side of the bridge is Whitlock Island and Whitlock Island Station . Whitlock and Babbage Islands have been joined together for a long while now , there is also the road out to 1 mile jetty and the Heritage Precinct .

Sitting on the edge of the platform for 10 mins , while we looked around , and cooled off a little . The seat is made out of steel and has a fair amount of rust as well .
We headed back across , stopping for a few more photo's , before heading back to the park for some lunch , before going again .

The promenade looks impressive from over this side !! We headed back to the park and had some lunch before heading north to Miaboolya Beach .
The beach runs north from the northern side of the Gascoyne River , quite a long way up the coast - it disappears into the distance . It seems to be mainly a fishing destination - there were many there wetting a line . They also do a lot of driving on beaches up here - don't know if I would buy a 2nd hand 4WD from up this way .

There is also a lot of beach - about 100m wide , and seems to get water coming in to the dunes from the mangroves to the south - you could get cut off by sea water if you aren't careful - we parked and walked in .
The beach didn't really inspire us a lot , so we headed back and washed the ute - there was red dirt flowing out from the wheels and tray - it nearly looked like it was bleeding !!
The ute looked quite amazing after the wash , we marvelled at how it glistened in the sun - it hasn't done that since Kununurra !! there's been a lot of red dust since then !!!
We headed over for a swim to cool down , as it was sitting near 30 degrees , before having some salsa and a beer or two with John & Julie . Everything ran a little late after that - we loaded the bikes up and removed the privacy screen and put the awning away in preparation for leaving tomorrow .
