17/8/22 Edith Falls

Okay , off we go again , today we head to Katherine , it's time to stock the pantry again , fuel the ute and decide where we're going to be tonight !!

Katherine was a short drive , and we were surprised how it's grown - there's a new large Police Station and Fire Station . Road works were happening and the old entrance to the shopping area carparks was closed , so we had to go around and find another spot to park - problem was , everyone else was also here to do the same things so we had to park a long way away . As we wandered down to the supermarket , a few vans in the caravan parking area started to leave , so I went back and got the ute and van and moved it down . Next was the madhouse we had to navigate - the supermarket had lots of stock , but not many varieties , and lots of people shopping . That done , we drove out and found a spot to sit and have lunch and contemplate where we would be tonight .

Decision made , we'll go out toward Edith Falls . We had some lunch then left Katherine , pulling up at a free camp at the entry to Edith Falls - which is 18klms away . There were 5 others there already , and it only got worse as the afternoon went on , a motorhome beside us , a few zippy vans , some cars and another caravan or 2 !

The evening went peacefully , even with a full house . Next morning we packed up and headed in to Edith Falls , getting the first spot in the van parking section - and that's where we stayed till later that afternoon . These 2 balancing rocks are beside the road in .

Edith Falls is a spectacular small waterfall , with a 200m plunge pool to relax and cool down in . This is the waterfall

There are loop walks to do here , up and around the falls , other pools and waterfalls further up the river . This shot is taken from the bridge over the river .

Beautiful cool clear water , so refreshing .

These are the steps in .

Orange flowering grevillea are starting to bloom all around here .

We were surprised to find a Kimberley Rose growing quite happily here - huge furry seed pods as well .

We decided to swim over to the falls - quite a swim across without flotation assistance - Lyn had the noodle though , I put my flippers on to assist with the swim .

    Here we are .

We slowly swam back over to the side and found a patch of grass to drip dry on , before heading back to the van for lunch . It was great being here early , before the hoards of tourists arrived . Lunch done , we decided to have another swim before leaving - it was only a short swim , the water seemed to be cooler , so it was a dive in , swim around and get out .
Back to the van , changed and headed off up the road to another gravel pit for the night - what a great day .  Here's a map link :- https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1PGVQ1PqZ-u6U4EvxwHjJt1CDs1zXc4U&usp=sharing
