Here's some of the escarpment on the way .
This is the Victoria River bridge and surrounding cliffs .
Yes we had to stop and get these aerial shots . This would have to be one of the best drives in NT .
Victoria River bridge is visible , this is looking back toward Katherine .
A little further down the highway is a turnoff to the old Victoria River crossing , this is the river and range behind it . The water isn't running a great deal and doesn't cover the rocky river bed .
These are the cliffs on the range , just a little bit rugged !!
Gum trees line the river bank , as well as the wonderful tall grass
From here we drove into Timber Creek where we'll stay for a couple of nights - it's another hot day , and we know there's a pool that we can cool off in .
We checked in and were told we could just go and pick whatever site we liked , it was a little quiet . SO we went and found a site - not before a guy came up to us and said " Hi , you finally got here , we passed you at the gravel pit earlier , and saw you at a rest area up the road " . I was thinking " who the hell is this guy that I didn't even speak to or set eyes on him , where did we meet him ??? , Some people think they know you because they were in the same carpark !!!
Set up and lunch done , we headed to the pool to cool off . We chatted with some airforce guys - they are here for Operation Pitch Black , and they set up the radar & flight control for the operation ! They have booked out the cabins in the park for the duration - they come from Newcastle .
That was the day , here's a map link :- https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1eAOVrnffJH_PdQ2d3BbGuYAhdN9hVOM&usp=sharing
