8/9/22 Parry's Creek Lagoon & Telegraph Station

Today we head out to Parry's creek Lagoon , another spot we haven't been to before , been close by but not to the lagoon . Another bright sunny day , so we left early to try & beat the heat . The turn off arrived and we pulled off the bitumen , and were greeted by some Mulla mulla and a few Boabs .

This is a dry weather road only , as it goes across the flood plain , the fine grey dust flying into the air as we drive across . We drove towards these hills .

And upon arrival , found the old telegraph station ruins . There were 2 houses and the telegraph building . The houses were built on stilts to assist with cooling .

It was built close to Parry's Lagoon and would have had some awesome views over the wetlands .

Chimneys are still standing and concrete footings & pads are still in place . Boabs are now taking over , there must be at least 30 or more !

Views out over the flood plain are extensive .

This is the concrete footing for the timber telegraph aerial - the mast was made from Oregon in 6inch x 2inch slabs , it was 165feet tall and 18 inches square !!

The telegraph station was very successful , as there was too much interference from ground mineralisation .

I took the opportunity to get some aerial shots before we got close tom the wetland & bird hide .

We headed down to the bird hide and waited for a tour bus to continue on it's journey , before we went to the hide .

This is the view out of the hide . Many birds & fish call this lagoon home .

Here are some of them .

Another resident is this 5m saltwater crocodile , living here quite happily

    Brolga's flew in & out .

Old mate decided it was too hot , so went for a swim - into the water quietly with very few ripples .

    Still going in

And where is it now ????

More brolga than we've seen in one spot before !

We watched the comings & goings for a while , before heading off down another track beside the watercourse . The birdlife was minimal here , so up we went again for a higher look . You can see where the fires have burnt though a lot of here as well .

Continuing down the track , we found our way back to the hwy and headed back to the van for a swim , then lunch .
Change in scenery this afternoon , we headed down to the port , the boat ramp to be more specific .

And we had another great sunset , there wasn't a breath of wind - which also meant midges and mossies were out , keeping us in the ute .

We moved up the road a bit , to a display of old trains used at the meat works .

    There's 5 Rivers Lookout , and some boabs .

    Sunset didn't disappoint either !
