23/8/22 Darwin

From Adelaide River , we head up toward Darwin - it's been 6 years since we were here last and it has grown a bit . We chose a spot near Coolalinga , called Barramundi Fishing Park , where we caught up with Jo & Mark- we met them at Bonney's ski park , and have been friends ever since . We all seemed to arrive at the same time , so we set up and had some lunch before the discussions started - that was the end of today !

Taking a drive the next day , we headed up to Casuarina to get some bit's & pieces that we required . We had lunch in a beautiful shady park near Darwin Surf Club , before walking out to the beach and the Dripstone Cliffs - multicoloured rock cliffs & shelves .

Next we headed up to Lee Point - probably doesn't look it's best due to low tide , it's a bit rocky here & there .

On the way out to the beach there's a dead tree , up in the top branches was this Kingfisher .

And on the lower branches was one of our favourite birds - a Rainbow Bee Eater - they are such a beautifully coloured bird , and it's one bird I have wanted to get a photo showing off those colours .

This is it coming back into land , most of the colours are however on their back , so this will have to suffice for the moment .

The water colour is amazing up here , this is looking toward Gunn Point in the distance - you can probably make out the smoke coming from several fires .

This is some of the pondage at Barramundi Park - we are camped on the other side behind those trees .

Next day we walked around the park boundary early before the heat arrived - hmm too late it's here already .
More of this pink flowering shrub was growing happily , making a pleasant change from the dead grass everywhere - they didn't get a great wet season again this year .

Spiral pandanus grows everywhere and anywhere there's a trace of water .

Nice little pond - potential croc habitat - we kept our distance .

You've got to watch out for these nasty little ants - Green Tree Ants - these are their nests up in the trees .

There's also a few of these little termite mounds - these 2 are about 6m tall !!

Here's the pink shrub from earlier .

Water lillies are growing happily here - only the small ones though .

Another afternoon we headed out to Berry Springs for a swim - another favourite place - seems to be everyone else's as well !

Stunning place for a swim .

Other time has been spent getting organised with food etc for our drive over to WA - we have to go through quarantine again , it's easier to not have anything that needs to be surrendered , we don't like wasting food .

5 days here and the weather is starting to get hotter and also with some humidity as well - we wanted to get to warmer & drier weather , we have done that , but now it's turning the other way - hotter & possibly wetter !! never happy 😆🤣😂 .
