Another hot day , so we pack up and get ready to leave , but not before we cool off again in the pool . Our destination today is Wyndham , a whole 101 kms away . The mountain ranges up here are nothing short of amazing , so we stopped a couple of times along the way for some aerial shots , here's the first stop about 20klms out of town . The ridge is only 80 - 100m high , but the one in the background is considerably higher - that one is the Carr Boyd Range .
This is looking to the south , there's smoke billowing up in the distance .
Okay stop 2 isn't much further down the road , the red area is where the cattle get water from , so they tend to stay around it .
Thee was a nice tree to stop under , temps were up to 35 and it was only 10:30am !
Looking down the Victoria Hwy , it stops very shortly at the intersection with the Great Northern Hwy , which continues to Wyndham .
There's been plenty of area's burnt this year - some meant to be burnt , others not - this one was set alight and caused a lot of concern , it was heading toward El Questro and they were worried it wouldn't be stopped - there's not the fire fighting resources up here like there is over in eastern states . If a fire starts , it's watched and hopefully will burn itself out . This is part of the big fire event on the way out to Wyndham .
It made for interesting photos from above .
It burnt through so much of the country shown in the photo's
Then there's Maggies Valley , she ( Maggie Nicholson )was the first to drive her Chevrolet 4 pickup truck into the valley in the 1920's - it was then called Maggies Valley . She would have bird cages on the truck and she caught birds and sold them to people all over the world . She was assisted by her adopted brother .
How about a 23m crocodile ! we took this on our way up to 5 Rivers Lookout - one of the best lookouts you'll see !!
And here's the view over the port area , the 3 rivers here are the King , Pentecost and Durack .
They are joined by the Forrest & Ord Rivers before becoming the Cambridge Gulf .
The lookout is on the western end of the Bastion Ranges , this ridge nearby caught the late afternoon sun
We were joined by some rock wallabies - there were a few mums , still carrying junior around - you can just see it's head .
The ship in dock is being loaded up with scrap steel . Some of the buildings were once part of a major meat works that processed meat for export .
From this pile , they are loading 24hours with a couple of tractors pulling trailers , and 2 semi trailers . They use the cranes on the ship to lift the scrap bins up and empty them in the hold .
Meanwhile the sun kept going down , creating another classic Kimberley sunset .
As the sun disappeared , the streetlights took over , creating interesting patterns .
And with that , we headed back down the mountain to the van , here's a map link : - https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1tuzA_zYrWkyElaLiSlPQtW2EmoQRjgA&usp=sharing
