18/7/22 Biggenden Gayndah Cracow

Back into a little bit of service , so some catching up to do - here we go .

The weather has made a decision for us , time to go inland and north to the warmth !! Leaving Burrum River , we head toward Biggenden - there's plenty of stops today , some interesting drone shots as well . Stopping to get a photo of Mt Walsh just past Biggenden .

A little further down we found Rocky Creek . Definitely showing some green from all the rain they've had . That will be an ongoing trend .

Views over the surrounding valley and Mt Walsh dominating the scene .

Continuing on , we found there was a point of interest along the way - but we are all hooked up & not sure about some of the side tracks when you're 16.5m long , so we stopped on the road side and got the aerial view . This is Coalstoun Lakes , yes I know , we couldn't see any lakes either .

   Nice grazing country here .

And some interesting mountains and windmill .

Found one of the lakes , it's a crater lake !! and that is why it's named the way it is !

We stopped at Gayndah and bought a bag of Blood Oranges direct from the orchard , then continued on along a back road to Mundubbera - well after a missed turn we found the road not recommended for trucks & vans . It had couple of serious climbs , but we made it unscathed - another little gem for the memory bank 😆
Mundubbera was our next stop , this was where we had some lunch - a stunning mural on the back of the Mundubbera town sign .

We are out in the country now , some great forested sections and plenty of crop lands as well .

Cracow is an interesting little town , probably being kept open by the gold mine just on the outskirts of town . Having said that , there aren't many residents - we did meet one of the new ones though , they'd just purchased one of the old houses to renovate and live in . They both work at the gold mine and saw this as an opportunity - they bought an old house and land for $20,000 !!!!
Here's some of the old shops .

The hotel still opens , but not on Mondays - and it was Monday !!

Using part of the hotel is the museum - it too was closed , but had an interesting display of signs outside .

The roadside grasses are going ballistic , you can hardly see the fences !

Boabs or Bottle trees ( as they are called in Qld ) grow quite well in this area .

Cropping is big in this area near Theodore , as they have irrigation canals to deliver water .

We stopped at Theodore Showgrounds for the night - with the other 50 or so vans . It turned on a nice sunset for us , before a cold night - getting a bit over these cold nights !
