25_1/8/22 Mt Isa & WW11 memorial free camp

Leaving Mary Kathleen , we head in to Mt Isa . Not a lot of change since our last visit , it appears that you are driving into a mine site as you approach from the east . We decided to empty the tanks first , park the van down near the river in as safe a spot as you could have ???? then fill the ute with diesel and go food shopping . To say Mt Isa is a bit hectic would be an understatement - there are people & cars everywhere , so we shopped and headed out to a park just on the outskirts and had some lunch . This is Leichardt River , and had no water on our last visit - different today though .

A couple of Corella's were keeping an eye on things .

The same stories that we heard about Mt Isa 7 years ago , are still doing the rounds - kids stealing cars etc from caravans and trashing them . Deciding not to stay was easy , judging by the people around there probably wouldn't be anywhere for us to stay anyway , so away we went again . The temperature has finally got up to the high 20's and early 30's . We stopped for the night at a WW11 memorial site , it commemorates the building of the highway during the war years to assist with moving armed forces across the top of Australia . We picked a spot down the back away from the road as far as we could and enjoyed a nice quiet night . Some aerial shots to look at .

I noticed a quartz outbreak out in the bush not far away , so went for a look . This ridge of quartz seems to be in a line that matches it up with other outbreaks on the same line at Moondarra Dam .

Not much else to report on today , another sunset to enjoy .
